Post office of Qing Dynasty
Zhujiajiao Post Office of Qing Dynasty, dating back to 1903, is the only preserved site of the Daqing Post Office in East China, with a rich history spanning 121 years. Established in the 22nd year of the Guangxu reign (1896) as the Qing Postal Bureau, and officially set up as the Zhujiajiao Postal Agency Branch in the 29th year of the Guangxu reign (1903), it was the earliest postal institution in the region and one of Shanghai's thirteen major postal stations at that time. In 1953, it was relocated to the vicinity of Fangsheng Bridge on North Street, and in 2001, it was listed as a protected cultural relic in Qingpu District. The antique bronze cast dragon mailbox standing outside the old post office site serves as a unique landmark of Zhujiajiao, retaining its function of mailing letters and embodying the retro romance of 'slow carriages and horses, long letters'.
